TWENTIES TRIBE: Intimate portraits of two sons with their tribe of friends and family during their twenties.
‘The work is a Proustian saga of sorts which delves into the intense present of their adolescent states of minds and then connects and expands into their twenties as emerging adults. I am after a vision of family that is both intimate and expansive. The goal is not to report but to connect, to show how the connections that make up our tribe and family unfold over time. I am in pursuit of the mysteries of love and affection in order to show the texture of family relations, not as an abstraction but as a lived and deepening experience. “
In ‘Twenties Tribe’, Fougeron deepens her intimate portraits of her two sons with their tribe of friends and family which she started in 2005 with ‘Teen Tribe’. Nicolas and Adrien slowly navigate their college years, their first vocations, more steady relationships and a return home, as emerging adults in search for their calling and social footing. ‘Twenties Tribe’ is a continued and continuous dialogue of the mother-photographer with her sons as they are transitioning into adulthood. Fougeron makes us partake in the subtle and specific rituals of passage and metamorphosis involved in this young urban and highly aware Millennial and 9/11-generation.
